How to Measure Curtains

How to Measure Curtains: Easy Steps to Get the Perfect Fit

1. Measure the length of the rod

Measure the length of the curtain rod you want to cover. We suggest extending the rod 15 to 25 cm on each side of the window to ensure the curtain covers the entire window when drawn.

2. Measure the height from the top of the rod to the floor

Measure from the top of the rod, not the center or bottom, because you base the curtain height on that point.

Please note that ceilings, floors, or curtain rods are not always level, and the measurement may vary depending on the end of the rod where you measure; we recommend that you measure at several points. If the rod is not level, we recommend using some stretch to hide the unevenness of the curtain.

3. Calculating your measurements

Calculate the width of the fabric you need by multiplying the length of the fabric you want to cover by two. Remember that if you cover a window with a curtain on each side, each curtain will only need to cover half the space.

The height of the fabric will be the height of the pole on the ground, which you will need to adjust in some cases:

    1. If you want it to be flush with the ground, subtract 1 cm
    2. If you want to pull it up, add between 5 and 10 cm.

If you are using a ring finish, you must subtract the diameter of the rings from the height. For a height of 200, if you have a ring measuring 5 cm, you will need to use a curtain that is 195 cm high.

Example

Measure height & weight

We want to cover a space of 240 cm with two ring curtains. The height from the top of the bar to the ground is 220 cm, and we want it to have a large pull.

Curtain width

Since we want to use one curtain on each side, each one must cover half the space, i.e., 120 cm.

We want to cover since we need twice as much fabric as the gap. We will need two curtains, each 240 cm wide.

Curtain height

Regarding the height, we drew a line of about 15 cm for the curtains. We add them to the height, 220 + 15 = 235cm. Since we use 5 cm rings, we subtract them from the height. The height we need to enter is 235 – 5 = 230cm.

In short, we will need 2 curtains 240 cm wide and 230 cm high to cover our windows.
